The intensity of light which the new screens emit is much higher (5X) and, in addition, the composition of the light is much worse than before.

Most of you have already heard in recent years a new concept called "blue light,” that has become familiar to many. Visible light, like air or water, can have different qualities. We understand quality as the composition of light, to illuminate producing the least damage to health. Blue light is very energetic and, in adequate concentrations, it is necessary for health. It has been shown that retina cells die when they receive excessive amount of blue light. The new screens emit up to 5 times more concentration of this type of light in their peak (~ 450nm). The reason behind this high concentration of blue light, is that there really is no white LED light. It is actually the blue LED light, coated with phosphorus, to achieve a white light appearance.

It is essential to understand this as one of the main characteristics of light in order to come up with an adequate composition, which is the dose. The main efforts of the researchers who are behind Reticare, have focused on checking what is the appropriate dose of light for our eye and how it behaves with respect to unprotected light. Other research groups in different parts of the world have focused on demonstrating the damage of blue light on the retina.
