Labor Day honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the development, growth, endurance, strength, security, prosperity, productivity, laws, sustainability, persistence, structure, and well-being of the country.
More than 130 years after the first Labor Day, the workers face new challenges and device screens are the center of gravity for most of the new workers. While the advances in technology and communications through improvement of electronic devices have tremendously helped increase productivity levels for companies unfortunately, the screens are damaging vision and health of people with serious risks, most importantly, irreversible eye damages.
Now, companies and workers should rapidly focus in these new problems arising, generated by the digitalization of the society. In general, occupational health hazards have been concentrated on variety of job functions however, currently the risks from being exposed to intense blue light from screens need to be a priority for all, as the majority of workers use screens more than ever before. And, the devices of today, while the output of images and the efficiencies are incredible, the intensity of light emitted from screens is much higher that comes with a high price to pay for everyone who use screens.
Risks for employee health have been in the forefront of companies since the beginning. Today, the added issue for workers, who now spend more time front of screens, have become one of the major risks of labor for employees all over the World. No one is free from this new risk which doesn’t discriminate whether you are an executive, administrator, office manager, faculty member or workers who are doing their jobs from day to day, working and staring at screens. As it stands, more and more people continue to be highly susceptible to the harmful effects from screen lights and, regardless of their hierarchy at a workplace, everyone can be affected by the same risk of eye damages. Imagine what would happen at a company, just because they didn’t protect their workers or the best of their talent against screens, start to experience serious eye problems. Just stop for a minute and, think….All the work that we do at our jobs depend on our eyes and, ask…What could be the cost for your company or your team as a result of vision loss?
The new era of the digitalization has new challenges for employers and employees and, like before, the best companies and the best workers are going to be the ones who understand the current issues, prioritize in taking care of the health of their employees who, in return, will suffer less risks and excel in productivity and performance.
